Hey There!

I'm David Hanson - husband to a wonderful wife who daily reminds me of God's grace,and father of two children, precious gifts entrusted to us by God. Most importantly, I am a sinner saved by Grace.

I'm orginally from Alberta but through God's providential care I have been transplanted to Nova Scotia's beautiful annapolis valley. Here, I work as a landscaper, spending my days close to the soil, where the rhythms of creation continually point me back to the Creator. I also have the privilege of serving my church as an elder, which has deepened my love for Christ’s church and my desire to encourage others in their walk with Him.

Roots of Refuge is where these parts of my life come together—faith, family, work, and the quiet lessons of gardening. My heart is to encourage and engage others in thoughtful reflection on what it means to be rooted in Christ and to live with grace in a world that often feels restless and uncertain.

The name Roots of Refuge ties together my love of gardening and my faith. Just as a tree grows strong when its roots are deep and well-nourished, so too our lives flourish when we are grounded in Christ. Here, I write about theology, the church, cultural issues, and the simple lessons creation teaches us—whether through the soil, the seasons, or the quiet growth of a garden.

My hope is that as you read, you’ll find not only truth to think on but also a refuge of encouragement—a reminder that we are sheltered by God’s grace.
